SCHOOL DAZE WEEK OF 2/6/17

Another snow day!

I know I have been VERY laxed in writing my weekly blog. Parents have been asking for me to get back in the swing of things and write that weekly stream of conciousness - OK, here you go!

I would like to start off by congratulating those students who participated in the NHMEA Jazz All State Festival held at Pinkerton Academy this past weekend (Feb. 2-4, 2017).

Just to refresh your memory below were the results of the auditions that were held in October, 2016.

NH Jazz All State Honors Band:
Bradley Garcia (Tenor. Sax I, High Score in the State)
Mike Perry (Trumpet V)
Harrison Foti ( Drums)

NH Jazz All State Honors Choir:
Isabel Breaky (Soprano Voice)
Sophia Garas (Soprano Voice, High Score in the State)
Areanna Lemon, (Soprano Voice)

Samantha Ducharme (Alto Voice)
Andrew Hotham (Tenor Voice)
Jacob Mertins (Tenor Voice)
Jake Apitz (Bass Voice, High Score in the State)
Zak Ducharme (Bass Voice)
Jacob Moralez (Bass Voice)
Kyle Whelan (Bass Voice)

NH Jazz All State Choir:
Jillian Houle (Alto Voice)

This is a pretty impressive list but the topping on the cake came as many of these outstanding student musicians had solo opportunities. An EXTRA congratulations to Jillian Houle in the Jazz Choir.  Isabel Breakey, Samantha Ducharme, Sophia Garas, Andrew Hotham,  and Jacob Moralez in the Honors Jazz Choir.
Harrison Foti, Bradley Garcia and Mike Perry were outstanding in the Honors Jazz Band.

Rooming list for Disney have been typed and posted in the music room. The airline passenger information is well on it's way to completion BUT I have some students who did not hand in the information that I needed - please adhere to deadlines! CSL Tours will be receiving these list no later than Friday (Feb. 10) if you do not get the necessary information to me, you MAY NOT be going to Disney.

Now on a happier note (no pun intended)

Souhegan Jazz Night is approaching quickly. Here is the final information for Friday (2/10/17) regarding our annual performance at Souhegan Night of Jazz II.

Joining the  Scott Mullett Quintet will be jazz ensembles from our host, Souhegan HS, Windham HS, Oxbridge Academy and  Alvirne HS.

The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and should finish by 9:30 p.m.  Jazz Band students need to report to Alvirne by 5:15 p.m. with music, instruments and wearing concert attire.  We will be taking a bus from Alvirne. Students may leave with their parents after the concert. Parents if you are not interested in staying the entire evening please make certain that your student musician has a ride home after the concert as there will not be bus transportation back to Alvirne!

Admission at the door is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for students and there will be a concession. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.  To reserve your tickets or for more information please call 673-9940 Ext. 168 or email Carl Benevides at cbenevides@sprise.com .

One last reminder - Saturday night (Feb. 11) at 5:00 p.m. the jazz band will be performing at the New Apostolic Church located at  32 Concord St. in Nashua.  Check out the flyer on ahsmusic.org and the Alvirne High School Friends of Music Facebook page. This should be a fun evening as we have invited students from area high schools as well as former jazz band students to come by for a Jam !

Keep your fingers crossed for good weather the next couple of days to make these events happen.

Stay Warm!

Mr. B
