School Daze Week of November 16, 2015

Hi Everyone,

As I mentioned in my last blog I would start writing on a more regular basis as there are many things I need to keep you abreast off regarding the Alvirne High School Music Department.

First, I would like to start off by thanking EVERYONE who participated in the weekend (Nov. 14 & 15) leaf raking. I was working in my office on Saturday and left about 11:00 a.m. thinking to go around and visit but MAN it was too cold, and I wasn't dressed for the weather. So, I whimped out but to those who raked a BIG C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S!
Some of you are well on your way to paying for the BIG TRIP in the spring of 2017 - keep it up!
Remember, this weekend November 21 & 22 is the final weekend to RAKE THOSE LEAVES and sock away money in your trip scholarship account!

Today, Monday, November 16 began the calendar raffles - this is an easy fundraiser and lots of fun! Remember, its better than scratch tickets and students have a chance to get in on the fun as well.

Tomorrow night is the Friends of Music E. Board meeting. We have a busy agenda with one goal in mind - It's all about the kids!

I know you received an email from me through the portal and possibly through CHARMS.  Mark your calendar for a Frozen Holiday Pie pick up between 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the Alvirne Cafeteria.
Please note that these are frozen items and need to be picked up. If you FORGET - chances are your items will be donated to the soup kitchen, sooooo- DO NOT FORGET!
Parents of the Jazz Band - as you know with the recent turn of events in Paris, Mr  Wells and I would like to meet with those parents this Thursday evening at 6;30 p.m. in the music room. There is a lot to discuss and a face to face, heart to heart meeting is needed. Please make every effort to attend.

Friday, November 20, 2015, is the last day for Pampered Chef (paper orders). Remember, you can still order on line until November 30, 2015.

I know we have inundated our band and choir families with fundraisers BUT you can pick and choose.

Saturday November 21, 2015, is the NHMEA All State Auditions. Students who are auditioning need to dress appropriately (Ladies, a nice blouse, skirt or pants and for the gentlemen, a dress shirt, tie and dress pants or kakis). Roll Call is at 7:00 a.m. with the bus departing by 7:10 a.m..
We will Alvirne no later than 12:30 p.m.

Can you believe that the Thanksgiving Weekend is right around the corner ?!?

Monday November 23,20105 @ 6:30 p.m I will be hosting an informational/organizational session for Cabaret. As you may or may not be aware, Mr. and Mrs. Ouellette are "retiring" from the committee after 18 years.  Hopefully, this event will continue but we need P E O P L E  to step up!
Many hands make for light work - hope to see you there!

On Wednesday (May 25) members of the Jazz Band will be raking leaves at 14 Pasture Rd with Mr. B. This event begins at 1:00 p.m.  All proceeds will be going to those jazz band members who attend.

Other important events are:

Hudson Tree Lighting Ceremony  (Voluntary non graded event)
This is an optional performance event. Students are asked to be at the common by 3:45 p.m.. I will need help to bring equipment to the common. If you are a parent /student with a pick up truck, SUV or a vehicle that can schlep equipment please be at Alvirne by 3:00 p.m.

Greater Derry Holiday Parade (A graded event)
Report time - 10:45 a.m. (AHS). Buses depart 11:30 a.m.   Step off – 1:00 p.m.
The Greater Derry Holiday Parade should be finished by 3:00 p.m.
Drum line wears your Elf costumes and everyone else wear festive head wear (Santa Hats, Reindeer Antlers, Blinking noses etc)

Ok, I think that concludes this blog. Some of this you have already read about or your child has come home and communicated these events to you (Yeah right!).
Anyway, I hope this blog helps. Thank you to all for your support and keeping our best commodity in the forefront - The student musicians of Alvirne High School!
