November 11, 2015

Dear Parents and Alvirne High School student musicians

It has  been a long time since I've sat down to write. I think its  time for me to get back into my literary  stream of consciousness and rekindle some interest in those of you who are support Alvirne Music!

First,  A Thank You and best wishes to our veterans on this day!

Now to my stream of consciousness.
Due to a small number of students committing  to the Annapolis trip along with an imbalance of instrumentation to perform at an adjudicated festival I have decided to cancel this year’s band trip.
That being said - I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that if your Freshman, Sophomore and/or Junior are returning to the band program for the 2016 -2017 school year  you should continue to aggressively fund raise and/or make cash/paypal payments to their trip scholarship accounts as I am planning on a  MAGICAL music department trip in the spring of 2017. The letter  i sent out will also address PayPal and Cash deposits.

As the holidays are approaching, November and December are a whirlwind with various fundraisers as well as performance events.

I have included an updated schedule with a brief synopsis to keep everyone organized (especially me).

November 14 & 15, 2015
Students have received their leaf raking obligations for this weekend. The information can also be found in the November CHARMS calendar.

November 16, 2015
The Raffle Calendar Fundraiser begins!  Friends of Music has been doing this Fundraiser for almost
10 years!  We call it the gift that keeps on giving. This makes a great stocking stuffer, or gift for the hard to buy individual or those of us who have older children. The calendar cost $10.00 and prizes will be awarded every day for the entire month of January. Even your student has a chance to win and put  money in their trip scholarship accounts.

November 19, 2015
This is the Pie Fundraiser pick up day. Please remember that these products are frozen. Pick up will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Alvirne Cafeteria.  Its imperative that everyone pick up their product no later than 7:00 p.m..      Product that is not picked up will be donated to the soup kitchen.

November 20, 2015
Pampered Chef  paper orders are due. The "on line" orders will be going until the 30th of November.

November 21, 2015
NHMEA Jazz All State Auditions are being held at Manchester Memorial High School. Those students who are auditioning will need to meet in the music room for a 7:00 a.m. roll call with a 7:10 a.m. departure for Manchester. We'll be back to school by 12:30 p.m. the latest.

November 21 & 22, 2015
Students  will have received their leaf raking obligations for this weekend. The information can also be found in the November CHARMS calendar.

November 23, 2015
If you don't want to see the annual Cabaret event come to an end plan on attending a
Cabaret Organizational Meeting  at 6:30 p.m. in the music room.  I will be giving an overview of what this event entails. YES, I have a theme  that will help us as  jumping off point.  This event requires a serious commitment and a lot of "behind the scenes" help with a dash of talent and patience.
Please help me to continue this event and make it a reality come April 2016.

November 27, 2015
This is the annual Hudson Tree Lighting Ceremony  (Voluntary non graded event)
This is an optional performance event. Students are asked to be at the common by 3:45 p.m.
I will need help to bring equipment to the common and return equipment to Alvirne after the performance. If you are a parent /student with a pick up truck, SUV or a vehicle that can schlep equipment please be at Alvirne by 3:00 p.m. Of course, any alum who are reading this blog are welcome to come by and play some flip book holiday tunes.

November 28, 2015
The Greater Derry Holiday Parade (A graded event).  Last year, I cancelled this performance as the weather was not cooperating. Mother Nature truly fooled me. The parade went on as scheduled.
This year it will take a helices snow storm for the Alvirne High Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard not to perform.  Students are asked to wear "festive head gear" like Santa hats, reindeer antlers, blinking noses etc). It is a fun parade and a great way to start in with the holiday spirit.
The  report time  is 10:45 a.m. (AHS). The Buses will  depart  at 11:30 a.m.
Step off – 1:00 p.m.  The Greater Derry Holiday Parade should be finished by  3:00 p.m.                                                                                           Drum line don't forget your traditional  Elf costumes!

Dec. 1, 2015
This annual holiday choral concert at the Hudson Baptist Church will feature the B Naturals and Treble Choir.  The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. followed by a reception with light refreshments.

Dec. 4, 2015
This is a Jazz for Peace Concert at The Nevins (Londonderry). Unfortunately, this is a "closed"concert. You must be a resident of the Nevins over 55 community to attend.
The Alvirne Jazz Band will be performing at 6:30 p.m.

Dec. 5, 2015
Hopefully, 3rd time is a charm.  It's been 2 years since we have been able to go around various neighborhoods in Hudson and perform. The  Band for Hire (Voluntary non graded event) will begin at noontime and end about 4:30 p.m.. Those of you who are new to this -  the members of the marching band volunteer to perform 3 holiday tunes in and around Hudson neighborhoods. The fee is a minimum of $100.00 (yes, it’s a FUNdraiser). We are all booked out!  Those students who are volunteering to perform will need to report to Alvirne by 11:00 a.m.. We  will be back at school by 5:00 p.m. as it does get dark early.
Please remind your student to dress for the weather and bring a head lamp:-)

Dec. 9, 2015
This is the Holiday Choral Concert Evening. I will blog more about this around the Thanksgiving Break!  Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:00 p.m.  Admission to the concert is a monetary donation along with a can/dry food good.
We are also bringing back the Holiday Concert  Raffles. The FOM scholarship committee is very interested in bringing back this popular fundraiser. The FOM scholarship committee is asking for new games, arts/crafts or monetary donations to help fill various "Theme" type baskets.
