School Daze Week of 11/17/14



I hope this blog finds everyone gearing up for the next couple of weeks as we start working our way into the holiday season, especially with all our upcoming performances (graded and optional). This is the last full week before the Thanksgiving Holiday so all band members should be ready for some “intense“ rehearsals in preparation for our upcoming performances.  Please check your Edline accounts for assignments and those FANTASTIC and EXCITING practice logs! Check your sectional calendars – remember sectionals can only help your grade.

I would like to report that the NHMEA All State Auditions went well. Everyone should feel proud as you put yourself out there and took a risk.  I will tell you  - that is all any director can ask “Thank You”!

 I am still waiting on the music and final information for the All New England Band Festival, which will be hosted at Plymouth State University on Monday, November 24, 2014. To those students and parents who are waiting the final details, thank you for your patients – the minute the information comes by me I will pass it along.

On Wednesday and Thursday  (November 19 & 20) Mrs. Egan will be coming into the music classes of the various choral and instrumental performance groups to kick off the upcoming Holiday Calendar raffle. This $10.00 calendar raffle is a great Christmas stocking stuffer. For those who purchase these calendars, they have an opportunity to win every day (if there name gets picked).  Students will be receiving $3.00 for each calendar they sell,  plus there will be weekly prizes and incentives for students to sell. so get ready to give the gift that is better than scratch tickets – The AHS Music Department Calendar Holiday Raffle.
How is everyone doing with his or her Pamper Chef Orders? Remember, this Friday November 21 is the final day with regards to the catalogues sales that students are handling BUT there is still “on line” shopping until the end of Black Friday!

If you haven’t marked your calendar already, the Hudson Tree Lighting will take place on Friday November 28 @ 4:00 p.m.. This is an “optional” performance. Those students who participate will receive a “Chit” for a practice log. All performers should report to the Hudson Common by 3:45 p.m..  I will need some help back at school to load my truck and if anyone else can come by to help with the larger instruments and flip folders that would be GREAT!  I am planning to be at school by 3:00 p.m.
A scheduled rehearsal for the tree lighting will take place immediately after school on  Tuesday  November 25 from 2:15 p.m.- 3:10 p.m..

Saturday November 29 is the Greater Derry Holiday Parade. This is a graded event, but please remember if your child can not make this performance they have up to 3 days to make up the work for up to 80% credit. This is a fun parade that steps off at 1:00 p.m. in downtown Derry. Students need to report to school by 11:00 a.m. The busses will depart school at 11:45 a.m.  All performers are encouraged to wear Santa Hats, Reindeer Antlers, Flashing Red Noses etc…as usual the drum line and front ensemble will wear their elf costumes.
