School Daze Week of 11/3/2014

Ok! I'm a day late BUT  I do have an excuse....

This past weekend Mrs. B and I had the pleasure of driving up to the Crane School of Music SUNY Potsdam, NY. Where we were treated to a fabulous senior recital by Katelyn Egan, Bassoonist (AHS Alum, class of 2011).  Katelyn was so professional, calm and in control of every aspect of her recital.  Her playing is beyond words that I can write. I am looking forward to sharing some of her senior recital performance moments on the AHSMUSIC.org website.

Upon our return home, Mrs. B and I headed to the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord to hear “Under The Streetlamp”. This singing quartet along with a killer back up band brought us to the Radio American Songbook (ummm, sounds like a Cabaret Theme). What a great weekend of LIVE music, and singing that had a meaning with words you could understand.   I’m sounding like my parents !

This Wednesday, November 5, 2014 is the end of the first quarter – YES, grades will be distributed next week. It’s safe to say that all the band students are passing their 4 competencies. Parents please remember that EVERY performance is a GRADED event, with the exception of the Hudson Tree Lighting and Band for Hire!.

Students in the Symphonic and Concert Bands received the Instrumental Sectional Calendar for the month of November. Most of this month is focused on the NHMEA All State Auditions but there are a few sectionals for members of the concert band.

November 6 (Thursday) is the Friends of Music General meeting at 7:00 p.m.. This month, we will be talking about a couple of upcoming fundraisers – Pampered Chef and the ever popular Calendar Raffle. Mr. Chris Landry from CSL Tours will be making a presentation on the April 24 - 27, 2015 NYC Trip. Please plan on attending so that you can get your questions answered.
Mrs. Beaton will be taking 6 choir students to the All New England Choral Festival at Plymouth State University, that day and  I will be taking 3 instrumental students to the All New England Band Festival on Monday November 24.

November 10-15 - is the annual Spirit Week at AHS.  In the spirit of celebrating Bronco Nation there will be no practice logs.

November 11 (Tuesday) The B Naturals along with our JROTC Colorguard will be featured at the Veterans Day event sponsored by BAE. Unfortunately, this is a closed performance event.

November 28 (Friday) Hudson Tree Lighting Ceremony at 4:00 p.m. This event is optional, students who attend will receive a chit (get out of a practice log for free).

November 29 (Saturday) The Greater Derry Holiday Parade. This is a graded event and a lot of fun. More details to follow in an additional blog.

Please remember that if your child is going on the NYC Trip the $150.00 non-refundable deposit is due NO LATER THAN THIS WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 5, 2014.

A final CONGRATULATIONS to our senior band and colorguard members it was a fantastic evening even for Halloween.   FOM parents, pit crew, uniform committee, my staff “Thank You”  for all you did this past season. I truly appreciate your time, effort and dedication to our band and colorguard.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week and enjoys the beauty of the New England Fall Weather!

Regards,
Mr. B
