School Daze Week of 11/24/14

The month of November is moving too quickly. Can you believe we are coming to the end of the month and this Thursday is Thanksgiving!. I was working at school yesterday preparing my lesson plans and trying to clean off my desk when it occurred to me that it was November 22. How many of you remember November 22, 1963?  It’s always good to take a step back and reflect.

What’s happening this week in the world of Alvirne Music?  This week is abbreviated.  Tomorrow (Mon. Nov. 24) I will be attending the All New England Band Festival with Cade Ciripompa, Cody Lenzi and Nick Rossetti. The day will begin at 5:45 a.m. with a ride up 93 to the Tilton Diner (breakfast will be my treat) then off to Plymouth State University for a day of rehearsals culminating in an evening concert. The festivities will end about 9:00 p.m.

Tuesday (Nov. 25) will be an 8 period day. The plan is to sight read the “Tree Lighting” ceremony music as well as review our parade music. I have included an mp3 on Edline for “Here Comes Santa Claus”  and a link for “Caroling Down Main St”.

On Wednesday and Thursday  (November 19 & 20) Mrs. Egan came by the music classes of the various choral and instrumental performance groups to kick off the upcoming Holiday Calendar raffle. This $10.00 calendar raffle is a great Christmas stocking stuffer. For those who purchase these calendars, they have an opportunity to win every day (if there name gets picked).  Students will be receiving $3.00 for each calendar they sell,  plus there will be weekly prizes and incentives for students to sell. so get ready to give the gift that is better than scratch tickets – The AHS Music Department Calendar Holiday Raffle.

Pamper Chef Orders are not over. If you forgot to hand in your forms last Friday (Nov. 21) I can still take stragglers until the end of the school day tomorrow (Nov. 24) The “on line” shopping for pampered chef will be until the end of Black Friday so don’t despair !

In closing, I would like to remind everyone that the Hudson Tree Lighting will take place on Friday November 28 @ 4:00 p.m.. Those students who participate will receive a “Chit” for a practice log. All performers should plan to arrive at the Hudson Common by 3:45 p.m.. I would like to thank Ken Kleiner for offering his help in schlepping equipment to the common.  If there is anyone else with a truck and/or minivan  and would like to help please meet me at Alvirne by 3:00 p.m..  A scheduled rehearsal for the tree lighting will take place immediately after school on Tuesday November 25 from 2:15 p.m. - 3:10 p.m. for any students who are interested.

Our next graded event is The Derry/Londonderry Chamber Holiday Parade is Saturday (Nov. 29). Please remember if your child can not make this performance they have up to 3 days to make up the work for 80% of the grade.  This is a fun parade that steps off at 1:00 p.m. in downtown Derry. Students need to report to Alvirne by 11:00 a.m.  The busses will depart school at 11:45 a.m..  All performers are encouraged to wear Santa Hats, Reindeer Antlers, Flashing Red Noses etc…. as usual the drum line and fron ensemble will wear their elf costumes. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!

Enjoy the upcoming holiday!
