School Daze Week of 10/27/2014

Hello to all of Mr. B's Blog followers !

The month of October is winding down but that does not mean a thing for the Alvirne High  School Music Department.  The end of last week was pretty hectic.
I would like to begin by thanking all of you who supported Mrs. B and myself during a difficult time. Your kind words/cards really helped!

On Saturday, (10/25) we had the Alvirne High School Friends of Music Craft and Vendor Fair. I know  I spent a few dollars on our granddaughters Shelby and Catherin for the upcoming holiday season.

Saturday was the New Hampshire Music Educators Jazz AllState Auditions at Souhegan High School. We had 42 students participate in the audition process.

The following students will be representing the Alvirne High School Music Department and our Alvirne Community at Pinkerton Academy Feb. 5-7, 2015  for the NHMEA Jazz All State Festival .

Bradley Garcia also made the Honors Choir as a Bass Voice.
Again, Congratulations and “Thank You” for making us proud!

Sunday (10/26/14) was also special as the Alvirne High School Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard participated in the Woburn Host Lions Club Halloween Parade. It was truly amazing and long (more so the wait than the actual marching. The parade route was 2.2 miles, but the excitement of thousands, yes thousands of people lining the street and cheering us on made it all worth it. There were marching bands from Woburn HS, Danvers HS, UNH, Spaulding HS, Randolph HS (Adam Shekleton, our former marching band instructor is now the director- doing a F A N T A S T I C  job!) and of course Burlington HS -with the cute Drum Major, YEP! that is what our girls in the Alvirne Sax Section were saying soooo, Mr. B brought him over to visit. It truly made the staging time go by RIGHT girls :-)

This Friday (10/31/14) during period 8 students from the symphonic band and concert band will march to Hills Garrison to celebrate the "Parade of the Horribles". This is an annual event, that our neighbors at Hills Garrison always look forward to. That night at the AHS v. Timberlane game is Senior Night. We will be celebrating our senior band/colorguard members as well as our senior cheerleaders and football players. Hopefully, we'll put a W in the column for a perfect way to end the   regular season. A final reminder - band and colorguard parents need to report to the cafeteria about 5:40 p.m. for pictures with their senior instrumentalist or colorguard member. Afterwards we will march down to the track and introductions will be made beginning at 6:20 p.m.  Parents are definitely invited to stay for the final half time show of the regular season with a different twist - Celebrating Halloween in Costume. It will be interesting to see which section is the most creative.

Parents of B Naturals, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Treble Choir by now should have received all the information about the New York City Music Department Trip April 24-27, 2015. Please remember that the  $150.00 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit must be submitted by Nov. 5, 2014 Unfortunately, this deadline is DEFINITE as I need time to process everything and give the  theatre and meal tickets counts to Mr. Chris Landry from CSL Tours.

Please remind your student to sign up for Edmodo as I will be posting practice logs and assignments up on that site. I will be phasing out the Edline site for practice logs and assignments.

Ok - Keep coming back to Mr. B's blog for more information regarding the Alvirne High School Music Department.

Happy Halloween,
Mr. B
