School Daze Week of 10/13/2014 - LOTS OF INFORMATION COMING YOUR WAY!

I hope everyone had a very enjoyable Columbus Day Weekend. Columbus Day weekend means the Salem Band Show which is the culmination of the Marching Season, unfortunately this weekend was a bust !
Regardless, the power of music and the music family prevailed.   This past Saturday, due to the wet morning weather the Salem Band Show was cancelled.  The Alvirne High School Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard were already at school getting ready to practice and the FOM was there as always to support the band and colorguard. In the schedule was the annual  sendoff meal from  Pizzeria UNO.  As word came of the cancellation, the food  was already prepared and paid for - what should we do? It was decided to  send the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter the meals since the band and colorguard would not be eating it.   As the food arrived and our FOM President Chris McNally and Vice President  Elizabeth Kovalcin arrived in Nashua, the Nashua South Band parent support group was delivering their food (Subway) as well.  Due to the large and generous donation to the Soup Kitchen, no meals needed to be provided for the entire weekend.
On behalf of the Alvirne Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard as well as our principal Mr. Steve Beals we salute the FOM and music program for celebrating our Community Core Value!

Please highlight and save the following information if it pertains to YOU!

October 17, 2014 (Friday) The Londonderry Lancer Marching Band and Colorguard will be supporting their football team as we at Alvirne host this event. That evening our 8th graders will be participating in the annual "Step up" night. This will be quite the EXTRAVAGANZA as there will be close to 500 school age musicians in attendance. Getting ready to ROCK 'n ROLL !

October 23 2014 (Thursday)  The 2014-2015 Alvirne High School Jazz Band will be performing at the Crown Plaza (9 Somerset Parkway) in Nashua for the Hudson Grange. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. This is a free event and opened to the public. Please tell your family and friends to stop by and support the Hudson Grange as well as the Alvirne High School Jazz Band.

October 25,2014 (Saturday) is a double header.  42 Alvirne band and choir students will be heading to Souhegan High School for the NHMEA Jazz All State Auditions. The audition times are from  8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Students who are participating will be given detailed instruction by their respective directors as to the days events.  Also, the Friends of Music will be hosting their  annual Craft and Vendors Fair. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. here is a great way to begin your holiday shopping for those "personal touch"  type of gifts. I know, I'll be browsing the tables for my 2 grandaughters when I return from the NHMEA Jazz All State auditions.

October 26, 2014 (Sunday)  The Alvirne High school Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard will be performing at the Woburn Parade. This is the first time we have been invited. It is my understanding that this parade is a "Spectacular Event " drawing in excess of 80,000 people hosting over 25 bands such as the University of New Hampshire, Mass Maritime, Waltham American Legion and many New England High Schools and local community bands. More that 90 floats from local groups & organizations make this a true family event.
Band and Colorguard  members need to arrive at Alvirne by 9:30 a.m.
Roll Call will be at 10:30 a.m. with the busses rolling out no later than 11:45 a.m.
The parade steps off at 1:00 p.m. Our estimated time to arrive back at Alvirne is 4:00 p.m.
This parade will begin at the intersection (rotary) of Rt. 38 and I-95 by the Woburn Cinema/Holiday Inn Select, exit 35 off of I-95 heading south on route 38, Main Street Woburn Traveling for 2.2 miles to the Woburn/Winchester Line. We'll get our cardio vascular workout that day :-)

October 31, 2014 (Friday) AHS v. Timberlane but more importantly it is "Senior Night"

I am requesting that all parents of senior band/colorguard members meet in the cafeteria by 5:45 p.m. There will be a formal picture setting.  Afterwards you and your senior band or colorguard member will go to the football field where introductions will be made beginning at 6:20 p.m.
If there should be a time and/or place change your senior band or colorguard member will be notified and the information will be on the web site ( and the Alvirne High School Friends of Music FACEBOOK! )

WOW!  - I knew October was going to be a busy month but who ever thought!
