School Daze Week of 11/11/13

I’m back!  NEASC is over and this week we begin our annual “Spirit Week” Festivities. Even though it’s Spirit Week please remind your students that we are still in school and that assignments and focus in the classroom is a priority.

The school year is going by rather quickly and deadlines as well as performance commitments are approaching.  This past Saturday, November 9 was the 3rd annual Comedy Night/Silent Auction, Friends of Music Fundraiser.  I would like to send out kudos to Bob and Mimi Guessferd and their committee for organizing this evening. I would also like to send out a “shout out” to the  2013 AHS Jazz Band for their inaugural performance of the school year. We were also very fortunate to have a Jazz Band alum fill in due to an absence. A big “Thank You” to Mariah Goulet ’12 .

On Monday, November 11 the B Naturals along with our JROTC colorguard performed at BAE systems in Nashua in honor of Veteran’s Day.

On Saturday, November 16 and Sunday November 17 music students will begin their leaf raking fundraiser. Please check your charms account or view the calendar on the left side of the website for specific information. Just click on the date to view the address, get directions and see who is leaf raking at that specific location.
Remember if you and/or your child have committed to leaf raking – follow through!
Also on Saturday November 16 – 35 band and choral students will be auditioning for the NHMEA All State Festival. The auditions are being held at Manchester Memorial High School. The bus will be leaving Alvirne promptly at 8:30 a.m..  If you have a student auditioning please remind them to be at Alvirne by 8:15 a.m.

Pie and Scones deliveries will be held on Thursday November 21 in the cafeteria.  That evening we will also be offering additional raffle calendars for those of you who are interested. Last year, our raffle calendar fundraiser was a great success – this year we would love to double our efforts. These make GREAT stocking stuffers as well as gifts for the hard to buy family members, relatives, friends and neighbors.

If you haven’t marked your calendar already, the Hudson Tree Lighting will take place on Friday November 29 @ 4:00 p.m.. This is an “optional” performance. Those students who participate will receive a “Chit” for a practice log PLUS extra credit. All performers should report to the Hudson Common by 3:45 p.m..  I will need some help back at school to load my truck and if anyone else can come by to help with the larger instruments and flip folders that would be GREAT!  I am planning to be at school by 3:00 p.m.
A scheduled rehearsal for the tree lighting will take place immediately after school on Monday November 25 from 2:15 p.m.- 3:10 p.m..

Saturday November 30 is the Greater Derry Holiday Parade. This is a graded event, but please remember if your child can not make this performance they have up to 3 days to make up the work for up to 80% credit. This is a fun parade that steps off at 1:00 p.m. in downtown Derry.
Students need to report to school by 11:00 a.m. The busses will depart school at 11:45 a.m.  All performers are encouraged to wear Santa Hats, Reindeer Antlers, Flashing Red Noses etc…as usual the drum line and front ensemble will wear their elf costumes.  There will be a mandatory parade rehearsal on Tuesday November 26 from 2:15 p.m.-3:10 p.m.

Please remember to visit and “like” the Alvirne Music Facebook page for up to date “happenings”.  In my next blog I will be focusing on the upcoming Holiday Concerts as well as some Disney information. Please get those Disney payments in on time. As of this writing there should be at least $600.00 in payments credited towards your account.

I hope everyone has given honor and thanked a veteran today!

Mr. B
