School Daze Week of 10/14

In 1492 ,Columbus sailed the ocean blue....

Well, this past weekend (10/12) the Alvirne High School Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard had their own sailing adventure. The legacy of the band and colorguard continued to live on as another successful outing at the Salem High School annual band show came to a close.  Words cannot express the pride I was feeling seeing the band and colorguard "step it up" as they have so many times. I already have received the mp3 files from the adjudicators and will be sharing their insights along with some of my own of this past weekend.  Our FUNdamental drilling has paid off!
It's always bitter sweet as the seniors performed "one last time" at this event.
It's not today or tomorrow but sometime in the future seniors you'll remember these times. The proof- how many alum did you see Saturday evening supporting their former band mates!?!
Congratulations to Gurbir, Brittany and Heather as they led the band and colorguard onto the field in exhibition. Your leadership just added that much more to a unforgettable performance.  I personally received many comments and compliments, not only from my colleagues but total strangers who were awed by our tenacity on the performance field. I would  like to thank Mr. Mata for taking the "formal" pictures this past saturday. If you are interested in purchasing pictures please download the form from the ahsmusic.org website.

This week will end the "official" marching season.  Thursday evening, October 17 the 8th grade band students from HMS will come  to Alvirne for a night of FUNdamentals as well as a chance to learn one or two marching sets. Rehearsal is scheduled from 6:00 p.m.-8:15 p.m.
Friday evening along with our HMS 8th grade band step up night we will be celebrating our band and colorguard seniors in their final show performance. As of this writing,  I have not received all parent information that was due by October 9th.   I  will do my best to reference my database and hopefully not leave anyone out. Please remember that  pictures begin in the cafeteria at 5:45 p.m. please be prompt if you wish to have your picture taken with your band/colorguard senior.   Parents and senior band/colorguard members afterwards will march to the field for formal introductions beginning at  6:30 p.m.

Jazz All State Auditions will be October 26 at Souhegan High School.  I spoke with Mr. Adams the NHMEA Jazz Auditions chairperson and he assured me that detailed information will be emailed this week. Don't forget about the Alvirne High School Friends of Music Craft fair Saturday, October 26 - my understanding is that this is the biggest craft fair we have ever had!  Please stop by and support the crafters  and get in a little holiday shopping as well.

Student musicians don't forget to fill out those practice logs, progress reports have gone out and parent conferences are this Wednesday, October 16.

Before the week is up I will have the results from those who applied to become TRI M members.  Student musicians  - check those sectional calendars ESPECIALLY if you are auditioning for the NHMEA Jazz All State on Saturday, October 26.

CHARMS packets have been distributed to most of the band, choir and colorguard students. Parents please make certain that you check through that packet as there is a lot of important information regarding your child's trip scholarship account. Speaking of which - please do not fall behind on Disney payments. I have asked Mr. Vince Egan, FOM Treasurer to keep me posted if people are not making their monthly payments. Mr. Landry, from CSL Tours is ready to make the BIG COMMITMENT to the airlines on our behalf so please make certain that your accounts are up to date.   We are on line to accept PAY PAL payments for the Disney trip.

In closing, "Thank You" to Mr. Don Ouellette and Mr. Chris Landry for constructing the shelving in the instrument storage room this past Saturday while the band and colorguard were practicing for the Salem Band Show. It ceases to amaze me that these two gentlemen still volunteer countless hours  after all these years....They truly "Choose to, Want to and Love to!"

Regards,
Mr. B
