MARCHING BAND SEASON 2013-2014 6/27/13

June 27, 2013

Dear veteran band, colorguard members and “newbies”,
I would like to start off by saying “Thank You” to all who were able to make the marching music “read through” last evening. For those who could not attend you will be mailed the music along with all VERY IMPORTANT information regarding Band Camp.  In a few days you will find  the  MP3 file of the show.
Not only the music room is getting an EXTREME makeover but this website will also be taking on a new look as the summer progresses thanks to Gurbir Kalsi and his thirst for web design.

Please visit this site often for updated schedules, my blog,  and pictures :-)
YOU will need to learn all tunes solidly before band camp!

Again, read and share your schedule and do the best you can to make summer “optional” rehearsals!

The show music is:
James Bond Theme
For Your Eyes Only/Gold Finger
Die Another Day/Live and Let Die/James Bond Theme

Finally, over the summer watch some classic James Bond Movies with your parents 

F.A. Q. How do I learn my marching music by heart?

You need to practice through the summer! Practice your concert scales C-Ab. Look for patterns and learn the parts that are alike! There are a lot of the same type of rhythms throughout each tune. I will be going over helpful hints to learn this music at the optional summer rehearsals.
Percussion check your schedule for rehearsals with Mr. Shekleton, You’ll learn the parts that come with the stock arrangement but I know Mr. Shekleton will make changes so you’ll sound AWESOME.

I am looking forward to seeing the veteran band members and making friends and memories with our new freshman and upperclassmen.

Squad leaders –Information will be mailed out  and posted after the July 4th Holiday.

The next school year is going to be a fantastic year filled with many great musical, social experiences and excitement. Can you say NEW MUSIC ROOM and marching “Main Street USA!”

Remember – Band is a major commitment before the school year and your efforts will not go unnoticed as the school year progresses. MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE AT THESE SECTIONALS AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT REHEARSALS (before the start of the school year!).

I would recommend that you show your coaches, work and especially your parents the band camp schedule or give them a copy. I do not object to splitting the time between band and sports –BUT COMMUNICATE! I will explain more in an upcoming blog.
If your coaches need to speak to me please have them call or email me
Thank you for your time and visit this web page often. Don't forget to become a member of the Alvirne High School Bands Facebook page and the Alvirne High School Friends of Music Facebook page.
