Happy Thanksgiving - November 22, 2013

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! to all the Alvirne Music Department family!

Mrs. Beaton is traveling to Kentucky with family - we wish her an enjoyable and safe travel!

The morning has started pretty early with my mother (90 years young) coming down to our apartment at 6:15 a.m. to help in preparing the turkey. Last night,we shared an adventure of making the meat stuffing (I feel like I'm 10 years old again ). She didn't appreciate the fact I put in a little too much water, oh well it'll evaporate :-)

Anyway, Mrs. B and I are looking forward to a wonderful day with family - making phone calls later this morning to (Jeff and Nicole, in Munich Germany), (Dan and Liz in Maryland) as well as my brother and sister in law in Florida and niece in Massachusetts.

Mrs. B and I have a lot to be thankful for this year! We have our first grandchild (a girl)  coming in January. On Tuesday evening, we were part of a "Google Hangout" and got to see our granddaughter through a 3 D ultrasound.  If you are friends with me on Facebook, check it out! What an awesome sight and feeling! ( I got a little teary eyed).  We have another gift coming in 2013 but I'll share that later.

WOW! This blog should be about Alvirne Music not me! SOoooo, let's talk about the Alvirne Music Department and why Mrs. Beaton and I are thankful on this special holiday.

On Saturday, November 17 -  35 students (37 auditions) auditioned for the 2013 NHMEA All State. First I would like to say congratulations to all the students  who were risk takers in this intense audition process. This says volumes about who you are and that you truly "Chose to,Want to and Love to".

The following students will be representing Alvirne in the 2013 NHMEA All State April 11-13 in Concord NH.

2013 All State Band:

Heather Hardy – Flute
Tara Hardy – Clarinet
Sarah Rossetti – Clarinet
Cody Knapp – Trumpet
Matt Martin – Euphonium
Robert Zaker – Tuba

2013 All State Mixed Choir

Heather Hotham – Soprano
Rachelle Choiniere – Alto
Samantha Migneault – Alto

2013 All State Orchestra

Phillip Skinner  - Violin
Matthew Skinner - Violin
Vince Dupont  - Double Bass (Principal)

Additional Kudos for
Michael Bureau  - Sue’s son made it on Viola and Emily Costello – Jim’s daughter made it on clarinet.

It gets better. Yesterday- I received a mailing from the Connecticut Music Educators Association who will be hosting the 2013 NAfME All Eastern Conference which features the All Eastern performing ensembles. These ensembles; All Eastern Band, Orchestra, Choir and Jazz are made up of the New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, DC, Delaware and DOD schools of Europe's top all state students. I am proud to say that Steve Caporale will be part of the All Eastern Jazz Band playing Tenor 2. NOW, think about this  - with all those students to select from and New Hampshire receiving 2% or 16 students who can participate - Steve was selected for the All Eastern Jazz Ensemble where there is one student per part. As his director, can  I say Happy Thanksgiving? !?
The Alvirne Music Department and the Hudson Community has a lot to be proud of! This is just another reason to celebrate what is good about Alvirne High School.  We will be attending the NAfME All Eastern Conference April 4-7, 2013 in Hartford Connecticut.  I am suspecting that there will be another student from the music department to be participating - but I am not at liberty to say so you'll need to come back next week and read my blog :-)

I guess I have bragged enough - I hear Mrs. B calling me to "come and peel the potatoes, squash, turnip and clean the house!" Yep, she truly is "The Director".

Enjoy, your day and time with family and friends and if I can be politically incorrect!
Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless!

Mr. B
