School Daze Week Of 10/8/12 (Instrumental)

In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean is a page from my diary of adventure.

Last week culminated in two fantastic performances. October 5 (AHS v. Con Val) and the "Super Bowl" of band performances The 17th Annual Salem Band Show. The AHS v. Con Val performance was a great dress rehearsal for Salem. Rehearsal time during the school day and week were a challenge due to weather conditions but on Friday night (Oct. 5) our student performers rose up to that challenge and focus their energies and talents to the job at hand. It was also great that our football team added a Win to the column. On Saturday, October 6 our student performers were scheduled to arrive at 11:30 a.m.. Many of them were at school well before the rehearsal call time and helped preparing the field for the focus session that lay ahead of them. Noontime rolled around and students were watching the "game video" of their performance from the night before. We analyzed the various sets (marching formations) discussed the strengths and weaknesses and proceeded to put our analysis to reality. The diagonals in set 7 of Stayin Alive with a push 12 counts had been given us a problem all season. Sets that needed fine tuning were the "swan set" and "canoe set" from Turn The Beat. Finally, we needed to work on the final set "Set 39" to spell the theme of our show Disco!

Drum Majors giving attitude!
After working these sets and fundamentals it was time for our formal picture. Thanks to Aranes photography we were able to do a band formal, drum major, band and colorguard seniors, colorguard,  drumline/front ensemble, colorguard and staff pictures. There will be more information coming your way regarding individual shots for those interested parents.

After the photo shoot, everyone was treated to pizza, salad, water and a little R/R  by our phenomenal volunteer parents - Friends of Music. I personally cannot say enough "Thank You's"! on  behalf of the students, music staff and myself. Everyone was working toward a common goal which was making the Salem Band Show performance a reality! Speaking of the Salem Band Show, if you were not in attendance then whatever I write will not do that night justice. Senior band members remember what we talked about after the show, it is my hope that you keep those memories in your heart forever. Again, thank you to everyone for a lifetime of memories. You definitely choose to, wanted to and loved to!

The Philadelphia band trip letter with all the particulars will be mailed this week as well as posted and Senior night information as well.
Remember - there is no Wednesday night marching band rehearsal this week. Next Wednesday we will have our "Step up" night with the Hudson Memorial 8th graders to prepare for the AHS v. Hollis Brookline game on October 19, 2012. Mark your calendar for parent conferences on October 25.

Finally, this Saturday October 13, 2012 is the FOM Comedy/Silent Auction Fundraiser. It's nights like this that help FOM contribute to making events like the Salem Band Show performance a reality.

Have a great week and enjoy the photos and upcoming  videos of the Salem Band Show performance.
