School Daze Week of Sept. 3, 2012 (Instrumental News)

Once again, it's time to get serious and start the process called blogging or what I call my stream of consciousness. School will officially start on Tuesday -  yet the band program has been in full swing since July. Opional summer rehearsals, uniform fittings, mini band camp, band camp, refresher sessions, 2 parades, our first Wednesday night reheasal and our first Friday night football game AHS v.Nashua North.

There are plenty of pictures on Picassa for everyone to view and download.  Hopefully in the near future a video segment of our first game will be available.  Anyway, I want to say "Thank You" to all the student performers, their parents and FOM support members for their commitment prior to the beginnng of school and the Labor Day Weekend performance.
Friday night was truly a positive event for everyone who attended. The band and colorguard were able to perform all 3 tunes, putting motion to "Stayin' Alive" and "Turn the Beat Around".  The senior dance could possibly rival that of the Thriller Show a few years ago, time will tell.

When Tuesday rolls around,Jazz Band students will be getting right in the swing of things with preparing for the upcoming NHMEA Jazz All State auditions.

Period I and J band will view the Friday night game, with a focus on what we will need to work on at Wednesday night's field show practice in preparation for the upcoming Londonderry away game. Speaking of Londonderry, the following is the schedule for Friday Sept. 7, 2012.
The equipment truck will need to be loaded between 5-5:45 p.m. with marching percussion, pit equipment and the Sousaphones. We may need to bring our command center podium as well. Students will need to arrive at 5:00 p.m. to get into their uniforms and get their instruments and flip books. Roll call will be at 5:50 p.m. with a scheduled departure for Londonderry HS at 6:00 p.m. The game in Londonderry will start at 7:00 p.m. and depending on pentalties and delays we should be back to AHS by 9:30 p.m. Parents please make certain that your student performer has something to eat before we leave for Londonderry on Friday and that they hydrate regardless if the weather is cooling. If things go well, student performers will have the 3rd quarter off to visit the Londonderry concession stand.

Remember - that the FOM general meeting is this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and all parents of music students are invited to attend. When your child signs up for a performance group at Alvirne, parents  are considered members of our suppport organization Alvirne High School Friends of Music. I hope to see many new faces. Thursday night at the FOM general meeting the Holiday Pie fundraiser kick off will be explained! The first meeting will focus on this year's initiatives and how FOM supports the endeavors of the Alvirne High School Music above and beyond.

I wish everyone a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

Regards,
Mr.B

PS. Did you read that great band camp article in the HLN written by our own Christina Guessferd? She is an example of one of the many talented individuals in our music program at Alvirne.  Kudos to Christina!
