School Daze Week of November 14, 2011 - Mr. B is on a roll

Dear Parents, Band, & Jazz Band students,

The marching season is over (almost) but we still have many performance obligations as well as the concert season being under way. The AHS Music Department (choral and instrumental) keeps extremely busy so I hope this post will help you and your family keep organized (especially me) as we enter the busy and sometimes stressful holiday season.

I just cannot believe that Thanksgiving is in 12 days!

Here is what is coming up:

November 17, 2011 (Thurs)  The FOM  general meeting that should have taken place on November 3 but we all remember what happened during that week or as I like to refer to it as “the week that wasn’t!”
Also, the pie orders and gift wrapping paper will be available for pick up in the cafeteria.

November 19, 2011 (Sat) NHMEA All State auditions. The bus is leaving at 9:30 a.m. sharp (not flat) for those students who are auditioning.  Also this is the first weekend for leaf raking  - if you have committed please be there!

  • The band will play at this annual event on the Hudson Common.  This is not a required performance – (volunteers only).  Wear warm clothing and arrive at the town common by 3:30 p.m.  For our newbies – this is a lot of fun, especially if it snows!
November 26, 2011 (Sat) Greater Derry Chamber of Commerce Parade (graded event)
  • Band and Colorguard students need to report to Alvirne at 11:00 a.m. We will leave at noontime.  The parade steps off  at 1:00 p.m. ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) 3:00 p.m.  As of this writing I have not received any detailed information. Once I have the details I will forward all the information to Dave Lecraw our webmaster or I’ll write about it in my weekly blog J

STUDENTS – Dress Warm!   Drum line usually dresses in elf costumes and band members may decorate their instruments  and wear “festive” hats, “battery operated” Rudolph noses etc. – be creative, have fun, create those memories!

December 7, 2011 (Wed)  Music Department   Holiday Instrumental Concert 7:00 p.m.

  • This is the first time in my tenure (16 yrs) that the music department will be doing a separate instrumental and choral concert. Due to the size of the program (especially the band) and the fact that the last concert was a 3 hour marathon (with a brief intermission) I decided to try this for everyones sanity.  The instrumental concert is not just for family members but for our entire Hudson community. Tell your friends and neighbors to join us for a night of very enjoyable music from the DE period and J period concert bands, the jazz band and a couple of smaller ensembles.  Monetary donations are accepted and donations of no perishable items  will also be gladly  accepted.
Ladies: Dress pants/ white blouse or a skirt/dress that is appropriate length (knee or below)
Gentlemen: Dark pants, shoes (no sneakers), white shirt and tie
Jazz Band members: black shirt, black dress pants or skirt (appropriate length knee or below) and black shoes.
