School Daze or Not School Daze 11/6/11

A Nor'easter is named for the winds that blow in from the northeast and drive the storm up the east coast along the Gulf Stream, a band of warm water that lies off the Atlantic coast.  Who would have ever thought?!? I hope everyone has had their power restored and is starting to get back to some sense of a normal life in our little town of Hudson, NH.

I would like to catch everyone up on events that involved our music department.

Special thank you's to Mrs. Lizzette Estrada and her committee for hosting the FOM Craft Fair on Saturday October 29. I understand that we had over 50 crafters and everyone left satisfied.

Remember that the Friends of Music Monthly meeting has been postponed till November 17. That will be an extremely busy night as the pie delivery will also take place. I know there are some people who are panicking but it'll all happen, heck consider what many people just went through this will be a walk in the park :-).

Last night (Saturday Nov. 5) - was our FOM Comedy night. I already have received a few emails; once again another successful event! Congratulations to Bob and Mimi Guessferd as well as their committee for making this event possible.  The night featured  great food (Thank You, Professors), Silent Auction items (I lost out on the HP Printer) but hey my 89 year old mother is going to love her curling iron set, heads and tails games and of course some great comic relief!
This is truly a small world - as the last comic was the son of a friend of mine. Now, I won't go into a lot of details but those of you who attended can relate that true life adventures can become someone else's comic relief. I personally would like to thank everyone who came out in support of the music program through this event.

While I'm thinking of it the Applebee's Pancake breakfast that was scheduled for November 12 has been postponed. Again, with the past storm - I just think we all need to take a breather from fundraising and running the kids around to various events.

Speaking of various events - The West Band and parents were disappointed that we didn't show but they understood - again, that darn Nor' easter.

Even though marching season is "official over"  here is a quick synopsis of upcoming music department events for the remainder of November.
November 10 - B Naturals "On Tour" singing at the various BAE Locations
Fall Parent Night - Parent conferences  - please email your teachers to set up times.
November17 - FOM General Meeting and Pie Pick up!
November 19 - NHMEA All State Auditions (only students who have signed up will be attending)
November 19-20 - Leaf Raking (Assignments will be given out shortly)

November 25  - Jazz Band Leaf Raking (all members who are traveling to Munich MUST attend!)
November 25 - Hudson Tree Lighting 4:00 p.m.  (This is an optional performance, but great volunteer hours)
November 26  - The annual Greater Derry Holiday Parade (Step off 1:00 p.m.) - This is a GREAT time, sections should come up with their own holiday headgear. In the past, trumpet section has worn blinking noses, the drum line dresses like elves etc.
November 30  - Jazz Band will be performing at Barnes and Nobles. Hold off on your holiday shopping- more to come!

I will have the band performances formalized with descriptions this week so keep an eye out on the blog post.

Go Pats!
