Memorial Day Weekend

Good Evening Everyone,First, let me say that the band sounded and looked great at today’s parade! Kudos to all of you in attendance. I had many Hudson residents come to me and EXCLAIM “How proud they were of you” and “How wonderful the band sounded”  NO, these people were not your moms, dads, siblings or any relative they were total strangers! I would also like to extend kudos to the Wilson’s for opening up their home to have an Apres Parade Cookout. Great job on the grill, Mr. Wilson, Mr. Hedrick and Mr. Brooks - the dogs and cheeseburgers were GREAT! (Geeeez, I sound like Tony the Tiger and the old Sugar Frosted Flakes commercial- ooops I’m dating myself).  The chaperone conversation was lots of fun - I won’t name names but we did share a lot of laughs :-)  Congratulations to  Anthony, Bria, Jake, Jenna, Olivia and Sara for putting themselves “on the line” and auditioning for the position of Junior Drum Major.  This was the first year that we did not make any cuts as the competition was excellent.   Special congratulations to Anthony in his pursuit as Junior Drum Major for the 2008-2009 AHS Marching Band.Reminder that Thursday night is our Elias Brody Memorial Spring Concert, it starts at 7:00 p.m. tell everyone-  as we say our final “good bye”(s) to the seniors. I would also like to remind everyone to double check your calendars as there is still a lot happening in the music department between now and graduation. In the original mailing (of last week) I listed June 10 as the ice cream social that has been changed to JUNE 16! That night we will be reviewing the year via a DVD (which all of you in attendance will receive) we will also be inviting the upcoming 8th graders. Anyone wishing to say a few parting words please see me this week.OK- I need to sign off and catch the Celtics game.  See you all tomorrow - two days till our Elias Brody Memorial Spring Concert - will we be ready?  (Don’t answer that). Good Night,Mr. B

Hi Everyone,Well, finally I’m able to blog again! It’s been quiet a while (obviously) - I forgot the password (old age). Can you believe that the end of the year is quickly approaching. School Daze week of 9/27/07 and Salem Band Show

Rain, Rain Go Away……well if it wasn’t for bad luck we’d have no luck at all :-)

I want to congratulate all the members of the Alvirne High School Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard. You worked very hard all week as well as Saturday in preparation for the Salem Band Show. I know you would have done extremely well making this director very proud of your hard work and focus.  Congratulations to all of you for your efforts - this work has not gone unoticed. To all the bands that participated in the Salem Band Show - we had the pleasure of seeing and hearing you - thank you for your efforts at the show- it’s great to see and hear all that is happening with marching bands in the State of New Hampshire.  I would also like to take this time to thank all the parents who volunteered as chaperones and pit crew for the Salem Band Show your efforts are well appreciated. To our parents and students who helped today putting the uniforms away and cleaning up the music room a BIG Thank You!

This week’s Friday night’s football game will be exciting not only from the aspect of the game but we will have approximately 400 youthful musicians. Our 7th and 8th graders will be coming up for our annual step up night and the Spaulding Band will be coming to Hudson and  joining us in the half time entertainment.

Parents - we will be having a Wednesday night rehearsal to help our 7th and 8th graders.  This is an optional rehearsal but I guarantee it will be a night of fun for not only our middle school students but our high school seniors as well. FOM will also have goodies for parents attending the rehearsal.

We are now beginning concert season - the next two weeks students will be auditioning for their seating. They will need to play the circle of fourths (by heart) C-Ab Major scales (by heart) a prepared grade 3 piece and sight read a grade level 2 piece.

I have just finished reading through and correcting the band critiques from our AHS vs. BG game - those will be distributed tomorrow during period J along with the test that was taken on the marching show. Students who need to do the critique make up  should schedule a time this week, also a couple of you have not taken the test with regards to the marching show - I hope you know your sets, counts and measures. All missed test and critiques must be made up by the end of this week.

I would also like to remind students who have not handed in their down payments for the trip to speak to me this week as I will be posting the final list by Friday.

I am looking for a fun filled week as we begin Spirit. I’m looking forward to video night this Thursday.

Regards,

Mr. B

School Daze Week of 9/24/07

How you feeling? HOT!  HOT! HOT!

The weather is definitely unseasonable, maybe that’s why our marching band rehearsal this evening lacked E N E R G Y ! The week has been busy as we are preparing for Friday Night’s home football game. This week we will be peforming all three tunes - should be interesting :-)

Don’t forget to share the Salem Band Schedule with your parents!

Friday your Yankee Candle orders are due!

Stage Band members are you ready to be recorded playing your transcriptions?

See you all tomorrow- more writing and thoughts to come!

Good Night,

Mr. B

School Daze Week of 9/17/07

Good Evening,

Greetings from Trois -Rivières QC  Canada

Now, you are probably wondering  “What is going on ?!?“ I am sitting here in Trois -Rivières Canada at my cousin`s Noella et Pauline`s house with Mrs. B. We have just finished having some fromage (cheese), pain (bread) and water :-)  We have just arrived after a 5 hour drive for an enjoyable weekend with my cousins.

This week as usual was busy. Stage Band rehearsed along with our German counter parts playing various tunes from Dizzey Gillespie to Wild Cherry.

Marching Band finally finished the “The Mask of Zorro -Finale“ All sets are done, we have made a few changes and have spiced up the ending - wait till September 28- our parents and patrons will be pleasantly surprised!

Please do not forget your trip deposit as we have already started paying the deposits for the various activities, hotel and transportation.

I did receive some emails regarding some edline questions.

As you are looking at edline please read the legend as it will tell you what  project is  being graded. Some students did not hand in the “First Assignment“  others did not hand in the critiques or missed the deadline - this is why you will see a 0 or **.  ** will also appear if the column does not apply- for example, if your child plays clarinet and you look at the flute sectional column you will find ** by your child`s name  because that sectional does not apply to them (for obvious reasons).  Also an X indcates Exempt, as in the case of those students who performed in Romeo and Julliet. Regardless, if you are still confused after reading this (I am typing on a French keyboard) do not hesitate to email me.

Uniforms bags have arrived - I would like to thank Mrs. McDonald, our uniform chairperson along with her committee for rebagging and labeling the uniforms and shoes on Wednesday evening. Does the volunteering work ever stop?

Finally, what a week it was for the Carl Orff Band and the Hudson School District. Our exchange students from Carl Orff performed at Hills Garrison, HO Smith/Library St., Nottingham West and Hudson Memorial.  The Hudson students were very interested, polite and extremely excited about the music they heard from Munich Germany. Traditional Bavarian Music,  their interperation of our American Music, and let`s not forget ABBA`s “Dancing Queen“ medley as well as the finale - a polka. I overheard many students and faculty members of 20 years  saying that these assemblies were THE BEST! Many faculty and administrators enjoyed themselves and even showed our students a  step or two on how to polka.  I also know that  Elvis has nothing on Toby :-) ask any 7th grade girl!

As many of you know today (9/21/07) was to be the finale peformance of the Carl Orff Band at Alvirne.  Unfortunately, that did not come to total  fruition (read the Alvirne home page). Regardless, the Carl Orff band students were pros and entertained the small but sincere gathering in our gymatorium and YES, we did dance a polka as the finale! We will miss our friends but we are very fortunate with today`s technology as they are only a click away.

To our host students, parents and Carl Orff band mates - it`s not today, tomorrow but some time in the future when you least expect it   you will remember these past two weeks.

Aujourd’hui, c’est une journée mais les souvenirs demeureront toujours gravés dans leur mémoire et dans leur coeur!

Extra credit if you can translate the last sentence :-)  Faculty, you want to talk interdisciplinary :-)

A plus tard ,

Mr. B
